Doodle Film, Essay
Shortly after the appearance of Doodle Film, in 1970, I wrote a short essay in two parts for an in-house magazine, in which I attempted to characterize what a doodle is as I saw it, and to talk about what it represented in the film, as a “counter-cultural” phenomenon in microcosm. The essay’s text itself is progressively squeezed out by invasive doodles, just as in the film they take over the character David Watt’s life. Here is the essay.
